Executive Committee Chair Shelley Fagel (Naperville, IL) presents ORT America's highest honor, The Tikkun Olam Award, to Florida State Senator Ted Deutch.

ORT America recognizes the energy and commitment of its contributors who voluntarily provide countless hours of their time spreading the word about ORT America and the important work ORT does all around the globe. To recognize the volunteer efforts of our supporters and of individuals who improve the world through their good deeds, ORT America has established four recognition awards.

Tikkun Olam Award (Repairing the World)

The Tikkun Olam Award is presented annually to an individual who is committed to strengthening the Jewish Community and repairing the world through good deeds.

Hermelin/Minkoff Award

The Hermelin/Minkoff Award is a prestigious national award, established to honor the memory of two beloved ORT leaders: David B. Hermelin, a past president of American ORT and World ORT, and former US Ambassador to Norway under President Bill Clinton and Beverly Minkoff, past president of Women’s American ORT. The first Hermelin/Minkoff Award will be presented to an individual or individuals or a group in recognition of their achievements in furthering either the cause of education through personal initiative or in recognition of achievements in business, government, humanities or the arts.

This award is the combination of two previous awards: the Women’s American ORT Beverly Minkoff Award and the American ORT David B. Hermelin Award.

Beatrice-Wand Polak Award

The Beatrice-Wand Polak Award was established in memory of Beatrice Spilky Wand-Polak, a former President of Women’s American ORT’s Chicago Region, to recognize teachers who have had a profound impact on the ORT program through designing educational materials, developing new teaching methods or improving technology.  Passionate about social justice, Beatrice Spilky Wand-Polak, a former President of Women’s American ORT’s Chicago Region, traveled extensively on behalf of ORT. She had particular fondness for Israel and Latin America.  Her husband, Bernard Wand-Polak, the Director of ORT Latin America, has also worked for ORT France, Morocco and Israel. Based in Argentina, Beatrice assisted Bernard as he built up a network of technical high schools that achieved excellence.
