Israel's science and math students’ rank 33rd among all nations---an alarming statistic from a nation which was once part of the top 10. Without strong science and math curriculums for its students, Israel faces troubling future consequences. This education crisis prompted the creation of the nation-wide Kadima Mada or Science Journey program. ORT America has been a crucial support for this rare partnership between non-profit and government organizations.

(SCIENCE JOURNEY) PROGRAMS
- The Smart Classroom: The Smart Classroom transforms the way teachers interact with their pupils. No longer are students passively learning by scribbling down notes from the chalkboard or overhead projector. Instead, teachers connect their computers to interactive white boards, which in turn link to students’ laptop computers. These interconnected laptops allow students to visualize concepts, repeat theories and examine scientific studies in-depth. Afterwards, students can review lessons on their laptops, helping them to complete homework assignments or study for exams. The Smart Classroom is changing education in Israel and ORT America is the key funding partner for this phenomenon.
- Intelligent Laboratories: Intelligent Laboratories motivate students and increase their range of scientific experimentation thanks to up-to-date equipment. Instruments such as specialized data-loggers, for instance, register research results on voltage, current, temperature, pressure and humidity. By illustrating classroom lectures, such equipment helps students better understand fundamental but complex subjects in physics, chemistry and biology. The laboratories are also outfitted with computers for each pupil and a terminal for the instructor, as well as printers, fiber optic cable modems and scientific computer software.
- Teacher Training: Every teacher participating in the Kadima Mada program goes through intensive training for the Smart Classrooms and Intelligent Laboratories. In addition, ORT America supports the installation of Teacher Empowerment Centers. These individual school “think tanks” provide scanners, digital cameras, computers, overhead projectors and screens, laminators, binding machines, photocopiers and video processing software to assist hard-pressed teachers prepare compelling lesson plans and course work. The ultimate goal is to raise each school’s education standards.
