ORT’s Leading Holocaust Music Website Launched in Berlin

As part of this year's historic meeting of ORT’s Board of Representatives in Berlin, World ORT will launch "Music and the Holocaust," a website that features more than 100 recordings and more than 300 articles written by a team of 20 academics, researchers and survivors. The launch is one of many events marking World ORT’s return to the city.

Visitors can search the material in a variety of ways, as the site uses interactive maps, hyperlinks embedded in the text, and a special browsing feature that links to alphabetical lists of people and music.

The website, which attracts 10,000 visitors a month, complements other work produced by World ORT, including "Learning About the Holocaust Through Art" (one of the most extensive on-line collections of Holocaust-era art), "ORT and the Displaced Persons Camps," and an educational website about the Holocaust being developed by ORT Bulgaria.

"Not only are we looking forward to our symbolic return to Berlin, but this year's gathering is an opportune occasion to launch the latest in our on-line educational resources," said ORT America’s National President Shelley B. Fagel. "In place of the huge, faceless number of six million victims, music offers perhaps a more personal way into understanding the Holocaust."

Nearly 100 people from 23 countries are due to attend this year's meeting, including Israel's Vice Prime Minister, Silvan Shalom, who gave the keynote address at the Gala Dinner.
